Plasma Ignition & Combustion Stabilization Technology for Pulverized Coal-fired Boilers
Plasma is the fourth fundamental states of matter beside liquid, solid and gas. It consists of a gas of ions and electrons, exhibiting a characteristic of quasi-neutral since the positive and negative particles are approximately equal. The temperature of plasma stream produced by plasma generator ranges from 8000 to 10000 degree K which forms a reasonable temperature field when combined with plasma burner so as to promote ignition and combustion of pulverized coal. By taking advantage of this feature, plasma ignition and combustion stabilizing systems for pulverized coal fired boiler has substituted fuel oil during boiler startup and combustion stabilization.
The application of PICS avoids air pollution problems caused by black smoke when ESP cannot be put into use for fuel oil ignition.
Pulverized coal can be directly ignited by plasma arc to largely save or even eliminate fuel oil consumption during ignition and combustion stabilization after implementation of PICS.
Start-up can be controlled smoothly matching the boiler temp & pressure ramp-up curves. Meet all requirements for unit ignition and combustion stabilizing during low-load operation.
Long time (several hours) can not be synchronized, due to the turbine or other equipment problems, will not significantly impact the SOC KPI.

By March 2020, PICS of LY Power has been successfully applied on 862 units including 31 units overseas such as South Korea, Russia, Southeast Asia , Europe, Africa, etc. The total capacity is over 370GW.
The technology can be used for tangential-fired and wall-fired units with direct-flow burner or swirl burner and different pulverizing system, storage or direct-fired (major), burning different kinds of coal, such as bituminous coal and lignite.
